Hello, I’m Megan and I’m a surface designer, working within the realms of Surface Pattern, Print, Illustration, Ceramics and lighting. I’ve recently graduated from Huddersfield University with a First Class Honours in Surface Design, and now looking to share my enthusiasm and develop my skills in a new and exciting creative role.
Currently based between rural Northumberland and Hertfordshire, I’m often inspired by the quintessential British countryside and towns I’m surrounded by. It’s these simple everyday things that are my main source of inspiration for my own narrative and playful illustrations and surface patterns, which I plan to develop into functional yet inspiring designs and products to be loved and treasured. All with the help of a good cup of tea in my favourite hand painted mug!
I love the whole process from researching trends, creating colour palettes and developing designs. As well as creating surface patterns and illustrations I also love coming up with new ideas. My background in Surface Design has given me the technical knowledge and transferable skills to push my style into new materials and products, combined with my creative thinking and research of markets and trends, this can lead to creating unique and innovative ideas.
My all time favourite thing to do, is to paint ceramics. Inspired by my family, who own a paint-your-own pot ceramic cafe in Hexham. I find the whole process therapeutic and love the hands on nature, from creating ceramics shapes to painting and glazing. Since embracing my inner ceramist, painting on paper has never quite been the same. See some examples of my ceramics here.
